ASHLAND, Wis.-- The Northland College Baseball team hosted North Central MN today in a non-conference double header. Today's games were also the first home games for the LumberJacks of the 2021 season. The Jacks would win game win by a score of 10-8 and drop game two, 8-5.
Game 1
In game one,
Seth Hackbarth would get the start on the rubber for the Jacks. The Jacks were the ones to strike first in game one, scoring two runs in the bottom of the first inning as
Zach Ross and
Noah Cross collected rbi hits to open the scoring. North Central would even things up in the fourth inning but the Jacks would respond with two of their own as
Keaton Arreazola brought
Adrian Bethel in to score and later
Garrett Warren would have a sac fly, scoring Joe Veit to make it 4-2 for the Jacks. The Jacks would bust open the scoring 6 runs in the bottom of the 5th inning to take the 9-4 lead. North Central would put up a strong fight late, scoring four runs in the top of the 7th but the Jack defense would stand strong, winnng 10-8 in game one.
Hackbarth finished his day on the mound pitching 5.0 innings, giving up 4 runs on 5 hits while striking out 4.
Keaton Arreazola would lead all LumberJack hitters in game one, going 3-4 at the plate.
Game 2
In game two, Jess Carmona would get the start on the mound for the Jacks. The Jacks would once again open the scoring with two runs in the second inning as
Joel Eason ripped a rbi double, scoring Veit.
Jake Schramm later had an rbi hit, scoring Eason, making it 2-0. The Jacks offense would however cool off throughout much of game two, unable to keep up with runs from North Central in the 4th, 6th and 7th inning as the North Central lead increased to 8-2. The Jacks tried their best with a rally in the 7th inning as
Noah Cross hammered a 3rbi home run but it wouldn't be enough as the Jacks would drop game two, 8-5.
Cross and Eason let all LumberJack hitters at the plate in game two with two hits a piece.
The Jacks are back in action next Saturday (April 10th) to open UMAC Conference play vs. Minnesota Morris at LumberJack Field. Game one is set to start at 1:30pm.
