Jacks Put Up Strong Fight- Drop a Pair of 1 Run Games to Scholastica

DULUTH, Minn.-- The Northland College Baseball team traveled to Duluth, MN today for a UMAC doubleheader vs. St. Scholastica at Wade Stadium. The Jacks would fall in dramatic fashion in both games by scores of 5-4 and 9-8. 

Game 1

In game one, Brian McKenna would get the start on the mound for the Jacks. The Jacks came ready to play in game one, scoring 2 runs in the top of the first as Noah Cross singled to left field, scoring Jake Schramm. Later in the inning, Ross would score off of a wild pitch to make it 2-0 for the Jacks. The Jacks extended their lead in the third as Ross had an rbi sac hit, scoring Keaton Arreazola to make it 3-0. Scholastica would slowly chip away at the LumberJack lead, scoring two runs in the fifth and eventually take the lead in the 7th, scoring three runs. Adrian Bethel would get the Jacks within one run with a sac fly in the 8th, scoring Schramm but the Jacks would be unable to get another run around and drop game one, 5-4. 

Jake Schramm, Keaton Arreazola and Zach Ross each collected 2 hits in game one. 

Game 2

In game two, Jesse Carmona would get the start on the mound for the Jacks. Scholastica would take the lead in the third inning, scoring three runs but the Jacks would counter in the 4th as Joseph Veit hammered a 2 rbi double to left field, scoring Bethel and Cross to make it 3-2. After Scholastica scored another two runs in the 6th, Seth Hackbarth and Rian Arreazola had rbi hits to make it a 5-4 game. Trailing by a run in the top of the 9th the Jacks exploded for 4 runs as Keaton Arreazola hammered a 3 rbi triple and Veit hit an rbi single to give the Jacks the 8-5 lead. The Jacks however would not be able to close the door as Scholastica went on to score 4 runs and ultimately win in walk off fashion, taking game two 9-8.

Veit led all LumberJacks at the plate in game two, going 3-4 with two runs and 3 rbi's.

The Jacks are back in action this Saturday (April 24th) as they travel to New Ulm, MN to take on Martin Luther College in a doubleheader. Game one is set to start at 1:30pm.

Northland College is an NCAA Division III institution located in Ashland, WI. The LumberJacks and LumberJills sponsor 14 varsity sports and compete in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference, Midwest Lacrosse Conference and the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
