HANCOCK, MI-- The Northland College Softball team traveled to Hancock, MI today for a non-conference double-header vs. Finlandia University. The Jills were able to pick up victories in both games by scores of 11-2 and 6-2. The wins today helped the Jills improve their record to 14-12 overall.
Game 1
In game one,
Kayla Preisler would get the start on the rubber for the Jills.
Saylor Donnelly was able to open the scoring for the Jills in the top of the first inning with an rbi double, scoring
Jenna Reyes.
Elizabeth Peters later crushed a rbi ground rule double to make it 2-0 for the Jills. In the second inning,
Jenna Reyes crushed a rbi single to score
Natalie Erler as the Jills increased their lead to 3-0. After leading 6-2 in the top of the 5th inning, the Jills exploded for 5 more runs as Reyes, Donnelly, Presiler and
Remi Orr all had rbi hits as the Jills cruised to a 11-2 victory in game one.
Donnelly and Peters led all LumberJill hitters in game one going a perfect 4-4 at the plate.
Preisler, who pitched brilliantly, finished the game going 5.0 innings, giving up 2 earned runs off of 8 hits while striking out 7.
Game 2
In game two,
Natalie Randolph would get the start on the mound for the Jills. It wouldn't be until the 4th inning before a run was scored as
Remi Orr and
Sofia Garcia each collected rbi hits to make it 2-0 for the Jills. Finlandia was able to tie the game in the 4th inning before a 4 run explosion from the bats of the Jills in the 6th inning as Garcia, Randolph and Reyes all collected rbi singles to make it 6-2 for the Jills.
Kayla Preisler, who came in for relief, closed the door in the 7th as the Jills took game 2 by a score of 6-2.
The Jills continue UMAC conference play tomorrow afternoon as they travel to Duluth, MN for a double-header vs. St. Scholastica. Game one is set to start at 3:30pm.
