Historic Day for LumberJack Lacrosse in Win over Cornell

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn.-- The Northland College Men's Lacrosse team traveled to Minneapolis, MN today for a neutral site Midwest Lacrosse Conference game vs. Cornell College. The Jacks were able to secure the 10-7 victory, earning their first ever win as members of the Midwest Lacrosse Conference. Today's win also marked the first NCAA win for Head Coach James Stumpo as coach of the LumberJacks.

Korey Muzzy, Jackson Breton and Jakob Wohlford opened the scoring today for the Jacks as they took the early 3-0 lead just five minutes into today's contest. After a Cornell goal, the offensive continued to shine for the Jacks as Tristan Petrie and Anden Stroik potted goals to make it 5-1 for the Jacks. The Jacks were able to get two more goals just before halftime as Matt Maldusky and Tristan Petrie were able to score and the Jacks took a 7-2 lead into the half. 

The Jacks were able to continue to play strong on both sides of the ball as Petrie was able to get his 3rd and 4th goals of the game to make it 9-4 for the Jacks into the 4th quarter. After a flurry of goals from Cornell, Jackson Breton was able to put Cornell out of reach with his second goal of the game as the Jacks were able to secure the win, 10-7. 

Danny Gentile played strong in net today for the Jacks, making 12 saves. 

"Couldn't be more proud of the guys", commented Coach Stumpo. "The guys fought through so many different injuries to finish the game. It's the first of hopefully many wins here in the Midwest Lacrosse Conference". 

The Jacks close out the regular season next Saturday (April 24th) as they host Monmouth College at Ponzio Stadium. Game time is set to start at 4pm.
