NEW ULM, Minn.-- The Northland College Softball team continued conference play this afternoon with a double-header vs. Martin Luther College. The Jills would fall in both games by scores of 5-3 and 7-6.
Game 1
In game one, Softia Garcia would get the start on the mound for the Jills. Game one started out as a pitching dual as it wouldn't be until the bottom of the 4th inning as Martin Luther opened the scoring with 3 runs to take the 3-0 lead. The Jills would respond however with runs of their own in the 5th as
Markia Smith and
Saylor Donnelly each had sac hits to make it 3-2 for MLC. MLC would score 2 runs of their own in the fifth inning to make it 5-2. The Jills would do their best to fight until the end as Donnelly doubled to left field in the 7th inning, scoring Smith but it wouldn't be enough as the Jills dropped game one, 5-3.Â
Donnelly and Garcia led all LumberJill hitters in game one with two hits each.Â
Game 2
In game two,
Kayla Preisler would get the start on the mound for the Jills. The Jills opened the scoring in the top of the first inning as Garcia and
Elizabeth Peters had rbi hits to make it 2-0 for the Jills. MLC responded with 4 runs of their own in the 4th inning before the Jills re-took the lead in the 4th as
Remi Orr,
Lenissa Tomasini,
Jenna Reyes and Donnelly each had rbi hits to make it 6-4 for the Jills. After giving up runs by MLC in the 5th and 6th innings, game two would need extra innings to decide a winner. MLC hit an rbi double in the bottom of the 8th inning to take game two, 8-7 over the Jills.Â
Jenna Reyes lead all LumberJill hitters at the plate in game two with two hits.Â
The Jills will have a quick turnaround before their next game as they are back in action tomorrow (4/18) in Hancock, MI for a non-conference double-header vs. Finlandia University. Game one is set to start at 2pm (EST).Â
