ST. PAUL, Min.-- The Northland College Softball team traveled to St. Paul, MN this afternoon for a non-conference matchup vs. Northwestern MN. The Jills would hold leads late in both games today but would fall in both games by scores of 7-6 and 3-2.
Game 1
In game one,
Sofia Garcia would get the start on the hill for the Jills. The Jills would open the scoring in the top of the first inning as
Saylor Donnelly and
Elizabeth Peters would have rbi hits to make it 3-0 for the Jills. It wouldn't be until the 4th and 5th innings before UNW would get on the board, scoring 4 runs in the 4th and 1 in the 5th to take the lead 5-3. The rally caps were certainly on the for the Jills in the top of the 7th inning as they exploded for 3 runs as
Kayla Preisler would hit an rbi single, scoring
Markia Smith. Later in the inning, Peters would smoke a double down the left field line, scoring Preisler and Donnelly to give the Jills the 6-5 lead. Unfortunately, the rally caps would also be on for the Eagles, scoring 2 runs in walk off fashion in the bottom of the 7th inning to take game one, 7-6.Â
Donnelly and Peters led all LumberJill hitters in game one, going 3-4 at the plate.Â
Game 2
In game two,
Kayla Preisler would get the start on the mound for the Jills. UNW would open the scoring in the first inning before a
Natalie Erler rbi double in the third inning as
Kaylee Harnack would come around to score to tie the game at 1. In the 5th inning,
Markia Smith would rip a double to center field as the Jills would take the 2-1 lead into the 7th inning. Like game one, the UNW bats would come alive in the 7th inning as they would go on to score two runs, taking the game 3-2.Â
Markia Smith and
Kaylee Harnack led the Jills at the plate in game two with two hits a piece.Â
Next up for the Jills is a double header at LumberJill Field on April 7th vs. North Central University to open UMAC Conference play. Game one is set to start at 2:30pm.
