Jacks and Pointers Battle to Stalemate

Ashland, WI - The Northland College LumberJacks led deep into the third period and were seconds away from picking up two points, but it wasn't meant to be as the UW-Stevens Point Pointers found a way to force overtime in the dying seconds of the game.  Both teams had chances in an exciting 3 on 3 overtime period, but ultimately had to settle for a tie.
After a scoreless first period, both teams found the back of the net in the second.  Brendan Charlton got the scoring started for the Jacks when he was able to find the back of the net off of a good find from Daniel AsproCameron Coutre added to the Jacks lead only a few minutes later.  Coutre got by a Pointers defender right along the boards in the neutral zone, before skating deep into Pointers territory and firing a tight angle shot past the Pointers goalie.
The Pointers got one back late in the second which set up the dramatic final period.  With less than thirty seconds left in the game and the Pointers net empty, the Jacks nearly finished the game when they cleared the puck out of their zone.  The puck missed finding the empty net by inches as it glanced off the goal frame which led to an icing, which gave the Pointers one last chance.  With 17 seconds to go and a mass of bodies in front of the net,  Tristan Conrad found the back of the net to even the game at 2-2.
There was no shortage of opportunities in overtime as both teams took advantage of the open ice during 3 on 3 play.  Overall the overtime period had 19 shots, with 12 coming from the Pointers.  After the Jacks fought off two minutes playing short handed, they had possibly the best chance to end the game with a breakaway with under two minutes to play, but the Pointers goalie was up to the task and kept the game even.  The Pointers than opted to go for all the points and once again left their net empty, but they were unable to take advantage as the game ended in a tie.
Chris Curr was outstanding all night for the Jacks in net as he finished the game with 58 saves.
Both teams meet again on Friday at 7:00PM in Stevens Point.
