ASHLAND, Wis.-- The Northland College Softball team hasn't played a home game at LumberJill Field in over two year's until today as they hosted the Finlandia Lions at LumberJill Field. Finlandia scored three runs in the top of the 7th inning to take game one, 4-1 and a late comeback was held short in game two for the Jills, falling 6-5.
Game 1
In game one,
Sofia Garcia would get the start on the mound for the Jills. After a Finlandia run in the top of the second, the Jills evened up the game as
Remi Orr would have an rbi sac hit, scoring
Kayla Preisler to make it 1-1. Finlandia used 3 runs in the top of the 7th inning to take the lead and ultimately the game 4-1.
Garcia finished the game with 1 earned run while giving up 7 hits while striking out 6.
Saylor Donnelly lead all LumberJills at the plate in game 1 going 2-3.
Game 2
In game two,
Kayla Preisler would get the start on the mound for the Jills. The Lions would open the scoring with three runs in the top of the first but the Jills would respond as Donnelly would continue her hot hitting with an rbi single, scoring
Jenna Reyes.
Markia Smith late singled, scoring Preisler to make it 3-2 for the Lions. The Jills took the lead in the 2nd inning as Reyes and Preisler collected rbi hits as the Jills took the 4-3 lead. Finlandia would score three runs in the 5th inning to again take the lead in this game. The Jills would fight until the very end as Smith would hit an rbi double to left field to make it 6-5 but with runners in scoring position the Jills would be unable to tie or take the lead and Finlandia would take game two, 6-5.
Donnelly and Smith would both go 3-4 at the plate, leading all LumberJills in game two.
The Jills will continue their non-conference slate of games this Tuesday (March 30) as they travel to Northwestern MN for a double-header. Game one in St. Paul is set to start at 3:30pm.
