MINNEAPOLIS, Minn.-- The Northland College Softball team continued it's non-conference schedule in Minneapolis, MN vs. Augsburg University in a double header at Edor Nelson Field. The Jills would fall in a tight one in game one, 2-1 but would bounce back, coming away victorious in game two, winning 6-5.
Game 1
The Jills would hold a 1-0 lead late into the bottom of the 6th inning but Augsburg would rally with two runs in the bottom of the 6th to take game one 2-1.
Elizabeth Peters continued her strong start of the season, slapping a single to left field in the third inning, scoring
Kaylee Harnack for the Jills lone run in game one.
Sofia Garcia once again pitched very strong for the Jills in the game one loss, pitching 6 innings, allowing 0 earned runs while striking out 5 batters and only allowing 3 hits.
Game 2
In game two,
Kayla Preisler would get the start on the mound for the Jills. The Jills got on the board early in this one as Peter's would reach on a fielder's choice, scoring Harnack as the Jills would take the early lead.
Jenna Reyes extended the LumberJill lead in the 6th inning hammering a 2rbi triple to increase the lead to 3-0. Preisler would help her cause later in the inning with an rbi single, scoring Reyes and the Jills collected another run in the inning to take the commanding 6-0 lead. The Augsburg bats would come alive in the bottom of the 6th and 7th innings making it a 6-5 game but the Jills were able to hang on for the 6-5 final.
Jenna Reyes led all LumberJill hitters going 3-4 at the plate with 2rbi's and 1 run scored.
The Jills will have some time off before welcoming the Lions from Finlandia University at LumberJill field in Ashland on March 28th for a double header. First pitch in game one is TBA.
