Green Bay, Wis.-- After over a full calendar year since it's last game, the Northland College Baseball team opened the 2021 season on the road vs. Lawrence University in Green Bay, WI. The Jacks would fall in both games, by scores of 19-4 and 7-4.
Game 1
After being down 3-0 in the top of the third inning,
Jake Schramm would single to right center, scoring
Joel Eason. Later in the inning,
Joseph Veit would score to make it 3-2. The Vikings would however score runs in the 3rd, 4th and 5th innings to jump out to the commanding lead.
Devyn Becker would hit a two rbi single, scoring
Zach Ross and Veit but it wouldn't be enough as the Jacks would drop game 1, 19-4.
Lawrence would out hit the Jacks 17-6 in game one.
Seth Hackbarth, Eli Hart,
Vinny Trocolli and
Gabe Lanhart would all see time on the mound for the Jacks.
Game 2
In game two,
Shawn O'Connell would get the start on the mound for the Jacks.
Keaton Arreazola would get the Jacks on the board in the bottom of the first with a double to right field, scoring Schramm. With runs in the second, third and fourth innings, Lawrence would jump out to the early 7-1 lead. The Jacks would do their best to rally in the later innings, as Veit would double down the right field line, scoring
Adrian Bethel.
Garrett Warren would later reach on a field's choice, as Veit would score to make it 7-3.
Zach Ross would single in the 5th, scoring
Keaton Arreazola to make it 7-4 but the Jacks wouldn't be able to bring any more home and fall in game two, 7-4.
The Jacks would out hit Lawrence 7-6 in game two.
Brian McKenna would come in to pitch 3 innings of relief for the Jacks, only giving up 1 hit and allowing 0 earned runs.
The Jacks will have a quick turnaround as they travel to Concordia-Wisconsin tomorrow (March 14). Game time is set for 2pm.
