PLYMOUTH, Minn.-- The Northland College Softball team continued it's start of the 2021 season today in Plymouth, MN for a non-conference double header vs. Minnesota Morris. The Jills would drop game one by a score of 7-2 but would come away victorious in game two, scoring 3 runs in extra innings to win 4-1.
Game 1
In game one,
Sofia Garcia would get the start on the hill for the Jills. After 2 scoreless innings, the Jills would open the scoring in the bottom of the third as
Kaylee Harnack would single to left field, scoring
Kayla Preisler. Later in the inning, Garcia would draw a bases loaded walk, scoring
Natalie Erler to make it 2-0 for the Jills. The score would remain the same until the top of the 6th inning as Morris was able to hit back to back 2 rbi doubles to jump out to the 4-2 lead. Morris was able to add some insurance runs in the top of the 7th and would go on to take game 1 by a score of 7-2.
Kayla Preisler would lead all LumberJills at the plate, going 2-3 with 1 run scored.
Game 2
Game two saw
Kayla Preisler get the start on the mound for the Jills. The Jills would get out to the early lead in the top of the first inning as
Saylor Donnelly hammered a single, scoring
Jenna Reyes. Morris would tie things up in the bottom of the third inning and the score would remain knotted up at 1 as the two team's needed extra innings to decide this one. The Jills wasted little time in extras, scoring three runs in the top of the 8th inning as
Natalie Erler singled to right center, scoring
Elizabeth Peters.
Kaylee Harnack would later single to left field, scoring Erler to make it 4-1 for the Jills. Preisler, who pitched strong all day for the Jills, closed the door in the bottom of the 8th and the Jills would take game two 4-1.
Natalie Erler led all LumberJills at the plate, going 3-4 with 1 rbi and 1 run scored.
The Jills will continue 2021 campaign next Monday (March 15th) as they travel to Minneapolis, MN to take on the Auggies from Augsburg College for a double header. Game one is set to start at 3pm.
