Ashland, WI – The Northland College LumberJacks 2021 season officially got underway Wednesday when they played host to the UW-Superior YellowJackets. The Jacks led after the first period but they were unable to hold on as the YellowJackets left Ashland with a 5-2 win to start the WIAC regular season.
Zach Ross found the back of the net for the Jacks at the 12:54 mark of the first period. After a scramble in front of the YellowJackets net, the puck made its way out to Ross who hammered a slapshot from just inside the blue line which opened the scoring.
The YellowJackets responded with five unanswered goals over the next two periods before the Jacks
Kenny Styles found the back of the net to make the score 5-2.
Freshman goaltender
Chris Curr made 53 saves in net for the Jacks. Both teams meet again on Friday at UW-Superior. The game is slated for a 7:00pm start.
Northland College is an NCAA Division III institution located in Ashland, WI. The LumberJacks and LumberJills sponsor 14 varsity sports and compete in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference and the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
