Ashland, WI – The Northland College Lumberjacks took on the UW-Stout Blue Devils on Thursday evening, only two days removed from a close contest against UW Superior on Tuesday. The Blue Devils used two late goals and an empty net finish to come away with a 3-1 win. With the loss, the Jacks are now 2-4-1 overall and 0-2 in the WIAC.
The Jacks jumped out to an early lead in the first period on a goal that began all the way at their own net. On the power play, goaltender
Chris Curr received a cleared puck from the Blue Devils penalty kill unit. Curr quickly fired the puck up to
Daniel Chartrand who was waiting near the Blue Devils blue line as they attempted a line change. Chartrand carried the puck into the zone and fired a cross to
Ty Brown who beat the Blue Devils goaltender to give the Jacks the 1-0 lead.
The Jacks held their lead till late in the third period when the Blue Devils would find the back of the net twice in a 27 second span. With 5:29 left in tje period Peyton Hart took a loose puck and after circling the front of the net, flipped a backhanded shot past a sprawling Curr. Only a few moments later, the Blue Devils took the lead on a shot from close range from Dylan Ravis. With seven seconds to go, the Blue Devils got a third goal on an empty net.
Chris Curr got the start in net for the Jacks and made 41 saves on the evening.
The Jacks are in action next on Saturday when they travel to UW-River falls for another WIAC matchup. That game is set to start at 7:05PM.
