Jacks Bag the Pipers

Ashland, WI - The Northland College Lumberjacks bounced back from a tough result on Friday evening and downed the visiting Hamline University Pipers by a score of 1-0.

If the visiting Pipers were expecting an easy win, they found anything but that at the Bay Area Civic Center as the Jacks battled with them every step of the away.  In the third period the Jacks found the breakthrough when Daniel Chartrand took a loose puck in the neutral zone in on goal, and after an initial save, found the back of the net to give the Jacks a 1-0 lead.  The goal came during a Hamline power play with 5:55 left in the third period.

In the final minute the Pipers were gifted a penalty after a collision that sent the Jacks into the penalty box for the final 52 seconds.  After a timeout, the Pipers pulled their goalie to gain a two man advantage, but it didn't matter as the Jacks penalty kill unit, backed by goaltender Viktor Wennberg, turned away everything the Pipers had to offer.

Wennberg made 29 saves in the shutout effort for the Jacks and earned his first win of the season.  The Jacks are now 2-2-1 on the year and are in action next on Tuesday when they host UW-Superior in their first WIAC match of the year.
