LumberJack Hockey Open 2021-22 Season with Win over St. Olaf

ASHLAND, Wis.--- The Northland College Men's Hockey team opened the 2021-22 season this evening, hosting St. Olaf College in a non-conference matchup at the Bay Area Civic Center. After jumping out to an early 3-0 lead, the Jacks would take down St. Olaf by a final score of 4-2.

The Jacks opened the scoring just over six minutes in the first period as Eric Honold ripped a one timer top glove for his first NCAA goal to open the scoring and give the Jacks the early 1-0 lead. He was assisted by Marshal Nikitin and Daniel Chartrand on the goal. Just minutes later, Ty Brown would make it 2-0 for the Jacks, getting the puck in the high slot and ripping a wrist shot over the glove of the St. Olaf goalie to make it 2-0. He was assisted by Cole Woodliffe and Andrew Liwiski on the goal. The Jacks continued to carry the play in the first and were once again rewarded with a goal as Jake Lamberty netted his first career goal as a LumberJack to give the Jacks the 3-0 lead. He was assisted by Connor Evans and Jackson Breton

After a scoreless 2nd, St. Olaf would chip away at the LumberJack lead, scoring two goals just 12 second apart in the third period to make it 3-2 for the Jacks. After taking some penalties, the LumberJack penalty kill would come up huge, killing the penalties and with seconds remaining and the St. Olaf goalie pulled, Daniel Chartrand (Connor Evans, Jack Craycroft assists) would put the icing on the cake for the Jacks, scoring the empty net goal to give the Jacks the 4-2 win over St. Olaf. 

Chris Curr would make 30 saves in net today for the Jacks in his first career win as a LumberJack. 

The Jacks continue their series with St. Olaf tomorrow at 2pm at the Bay Area Civic Center.
