Jacks Fall in Overtime to Cornell

Mount Vernon, IA-

The Northland College Men's Lacrosse team traveled to Mount Vernon, IA this afternoon for a matchup vs. Cornell College. The Jacks would fall in heartbreaking fashion, loosing 10-9 in overtime.

The Jacks would waste little time in this one today as Kenny Gudmonson would hit the twine as the Jacks would take the early 1-0 lead just three minutes into the game. Cornell would respond with a goal of their own before Tron Trondson would score two straight goals giving the Jacks the 3-1 lead in the first. The Jacks would continue their offensive outpour as Jakob Wohlford and Bob Donohue would score their first goals of the game making it 5-2 for the Jacks. Gudmonson and Nick Anderson would collect assists on the goals. Trondson would score his third goal of the game as the Jacks would take a 6-3 lead into the half. 

Cornell would regroup at halftime and come out of the gates flying, scoring three straight goals, to tie the game at 6. The Jacks would not back down however as Bailey Lang would score and Wohlford would add two more as the Jacks would retake the lead 9-6 going into the 4th. Cornell would slowly chip away at the LumberJack lead with goals at the 13 and 7 minute marks of the 4th to make it a 1 goal game and would later tie the game with just 5 minutes remaining. The Jacks would have some quality chances late to retake the lead but would not be able to capitalize as the two teams would head to overtime to decide this one. 

Wohlford and Trondson would both have opportunities early in overtime but the Cornell defense would stand tall. With only 1:11 remaining in overtime, Cornell would find the net, taking the game 10-9. 

Jakob Wohlford would lead the attack today for the Jacks with 3 goals and 2 assists for 5 points. 

Danny Gentile would play strong today in net for the Jacks, making 19 saves. 

Cornell would outshoot the Jacks 50-42. 

The Jacks look to have a little home town cooking this Saturday (Feb 29th) as the host Beloit College at home at Ponzio Stadium. Game time is set for 1pm.
