Ashland, WI - The Northland College Lumberjacks finished off a thrilling second half comeback on Wednesday evening and picked up an 81-77 win in their home finale. The Jacks trailed the North Central University Rams for most of the night, but the Jacks would outscore the Rams by 27 over the final 16:13 of the second half. The Jacks improved to 6-18 with the win while the Rams are now 5-20.
The Rams controlled the first half and took a 41-29 lead into the locker room. The Rams quickly extended their lead in the second half and look poised to run away with the game after a Germaine Caldwell jumper at the 16:13 mark gave them a 55-32 lead. Both teams wuld trade baskets until a
Max May three pointer cut the Rams lead to 18 with 13:36 left to play. May followed that with a short jumper in the paint and on the next possession stole the ball at halfcourt before launching a pull-up three pointer that cut the Rams lead to 13.
Both teams missed at each end before May scored the games tenth consecutive point with another jumper in the paint. May's streak came to an end on the next possession when May found Senior
Aaron Houle who drained another three to bring the Jacks within eight points of the Rams.
The Rams eventually extended their lead back to 12 but the Jacks'
Devyn Frye hit back to back three pointers to bring the game within six. At the 4:29 mark, the Rams once again looked to finish off the Jacks with a Riley Louikinen three pointer that gave the Rams a 73-64 lead. The Jacks would respond with a 14-4 run over the next three and a half minutes, led by
Ryan Rawlings to tie the score at 77 a piece with 52 seconds remaining.
Devyn Frye would play a crucial role down the stretch by scoring the Jacks' last four points. The Jacks would go on to win by a score of 81-77 in their final home game of the season.
