The Northland College Lumberjills traveled to UW-Eau Claire on Friday for two games against the Blugolds. The Jills had a tough task as the Blugolds are currently ranked third in the nation according to the latest USCHO poll.
The Jills nearly pulled off a major upset on Friday, but ultimately lost a close 1-0 game.
Gabby Suhr was phenomenal in net for the Jills as she wasn't beaten until the 16:59 mark of the third period. Suhr made 52 saves on the evening. The Jills penalty kill unit was also impressive as they fought off seven powerplays on the evening.
On Saturday the Jills faced off against the Bluegolds once again, and although they were able to find the back of the net, the Jills ultimately lost by a score of 4-1.
Gabby Suhr had a big night again as she made 45 saves in the game.
The Blugolds scored three goals in the second period to jump ahead.
Samantha Scott found the back of the net for the Jills with 24 seconds left in the second period to make the score 3-1. Her goal was assisted by
Sierra Meroniuk and
Kylie Fahmer.
The Jills looked to make the game closer in the third, but the Blugolds got some breathing room with a goal halfway through the period to make the score 4-1.
After this weekend the Jills are now 6-15-2. They return to action on Friday when they host UW-Superior.
