Jills Down Lions

Houghton, MI - The Northland College Lumberjills found the back of the net five times, all in unique fashion, on Tuesday evening as they ultimately beat the Finlandia University Lions 5-2.  The Jills trailed 1-0 after the first period but they responded with the games next three goals.  The Lions pulled one back in the second period but the Jills added two more in the third to take the 5-2 victory on the road.

Allyson Reilly scored a power play goal to get things going for the Jills at the 7:28 mark of the second period.  Michaela Isetts-Williams found the back of the net next just over a minute later to give the Jills the lead.  The Jills found a third goal four minutes later after both teams were reduced to four skaters.  Karadyn Kiviaho took advantage of the open ice and beat a defender before firing a backhanded shot past the Lions goalie and into the top shelf of the net.

The Lions got one back towards the end of the second period, but the Jills responded with a short handed goal from Mahteya Dumelie at the 12:54 mark of the third period.  From there, the Jills sealed the win with an empty net goal from Kiviaho as time winded down.

Gabby Suhr made 22 stops in net for the Jills.

With the win, the Jills are now 5-10 on the season.  The Jills are in action next on Friday when they host Marian at 7:00pm.
