Minneapolis, MN-
The Northland College Baseball team traveled to Minneapolis, MN today to open up UMAC play vs. Northwestern MN in a doubleheader. The Jacks would walk away with the split, winning game one 2-0 and falling in game two, 5-2.
Game 1
Game one saw 5 pitchers see action on the mound for the Jacks as
Carson Ferry would get the nod for the start. In a defensive battle early on, both teams would remain scoreless until the bottom of the sixth inning as
Ben Matteson would fly out to right field for the sac fly, scoring
Jake Schramm to make it 1-0 for the Jacks. Northwestern would threaten in the top of the 8th inning with the bases loaded, but the Jacks would get out of the jam with a double play to end the inning as the base runner from Northwestern would leave 3rd base early on a tag up to the outfield. The Jacks added an insurance run in the bottom half of the inning as smooth hitting
Noah Cross hammered a single to center field, scoring Schramm to make it 2-0.
Riley Reuter would come in to close the door in the top of the 9th and the Jacks would take game one, 2-0.
Kyle Wallace,
Seth Hackbarth and
Earl Kraft along with Ferry and Reuter would all contribute on the mound in the 3 hit shutout win in game one.
The Jacks would outhit Northwestern 7-3 in game one as
Noah Cross and Jake Shramm led the Jacks at the plate with 2 hits each.
Game 2
In game two,
Adrian Bethel would get the start on the mound for the Jacks. The Jacks would get on the board first in the bottom of the third inning as
Garrett Warren scored on a wild pitch as the Jacks took the early 1-0 lead. Northwestern added a run in the top of the 4th inning and the teams would remain scoreless until the top of the sixth inning as Northwestern added 3 runs to take the 4-1 lead.
Austin Stuckart would get the Jacks back on the board in the 7th, ripping a rbi single to left field, scoring Warren to make it 4-2. Northwestern added an insurance run in the top of the 8th inning and go on to take game two, 5-2.
Jake Schramm and
Rian Arreazola led all LumberJack hitters at the plate in game two with 4 hits each.
Next up for the Jacks is a road trip to St. Bonifacious, MN on April 13th, as they continue UMAC play in a doubleheader vs. Crown College. Game one is set for 1:30 pm.
