Duluth, MN-
The Northland College Baseball team continued UMAC play this afternoon in Duluth, MN. The Jacks would earn the split, winning game one 15-10 and falling in game two 16-0. The win in game one was the first win in program history for the Jacks over St. Scholastica.
Game 1
In game one,
Noah Cross would get the start on the mound for the Jacks.
Adrian Bethel would get the Jacks on the board in the top of the fist inning with a single to left field, scoring
Jake Schramm to make it 1-0. After the Saints scored two runs in the bottom half of the inning,
Austin Stuckart would rip a 2 rbi single through the left side, scoring
Earl Kraft and
Kyle Pouncy as the Jacks would re-take the lead, 3-2. Later in the inning,
Noah Cross would smash an rbi double, scoring
Jake Schramm to make it 4-2 for the Jacks. The Saints would add a run in the bottom of the second before a 5 run explosion for the Jacks in the top of the third as Schramm would single up the middle, scoring Pouncy to make it 5-3. Later in the inning
Adrian Bethel would hammer a three run home run as the Jacks would take the 9-3 lead over the Saints. The Saints would add 2 runs in the bottom half of the inning, but the Jacks would still lead 9-5. Fast forward to the top of the 9th inning, with the game much in hand, the Jacks would again explode for a big 6 run inning as
Austin Stuckart would single through the left side, scoring
Earl Kraft. Later in the inning,
Rian Arreazola would rip a 2 rbi single through the middle to make it 14-5 for the Jacks.
Garrett Warren would later crush an rbi double down the right field line, scoring Pouncy as the Jacks would take the 15-5 lead. Scholastica would threaten late with 5 runs in the bottom of the 9th but the LumberJack lead would be too much for the Saints and the Jacks would take game one, 15-10.
Noah Cross would pitch strong for the Jacks, going 8.2 innings, only allowing 6 hits and striking out 5 batters.
Jonathan Knusta would come in to close the door in relief for the Jacks.
Jake Schramm, who came in to today as one of the hottest hitters in the UMAC, would continue his offensive tear at the plate, going 4-6 and would score 3 runs.
Game 2
In game two,
Adrian Bethel would get the start on the mound for the Jacks. The Saints from Scholastica would be ready to go in this one, scoring runs in the first 5 innings to take the 15-0 lead.
Kyle Wallace and
Alex Carey would both come in to pitch relief for the Jacks in game two. The Saints would shut the door on the Jacks and take game two, 16-0.
Austin Stuckart,
Noah Cross,
Shawn O'Connell and
Kyle Pouncy would all have hits in game two.
The Jacks conclude the 2019 regular season this Saturday (May 4) in New Ulm, MN vs. Martin Luther College. Game one is set to start at 1:30pm
