New Ulm, MN-
The Northland College Baseball team traveled to New Ulm, MN today for their final games of the 2019 season vs. Martin Luther College. The Jacks would earn the split, falling in game one, 9-2 and earned the victory in game two, winning 14-4.
Game 1
In game one,
Carson Ferry would get the start on the mound for the Jacks. Martin Luther would jump out to the early lead in the third inning, scoring 4 runs and would add 4 more in the fourth to take the early 8-0 lead. The two teams would remain scoreless until the top of the 8th inning as
Jake Schramm would hit a sac fly to center, scoring
Joseph Veit.
Austin Stuckart would also score on the play on an error as the Jacks would cut the lead to 8-2. The Knights would however add a run in the bottom of the 8th and went on to take game one, 9-2.
Austin Stuckart would lead the Jacks with two hits in game one.
Jonathan Knusta and
Kyle Wallace would both come in to pitch 5.1 innings of relief.
Game 2
In game two,
Riley Reuter would get the start on the mound for the Jacks. Martin Luther would open the scoring with two runs in the bottom of the first inning before a 5 run explosion for the Jacks in the top of the second as
Earl Kraft would walk with the bases loaded to make it 2-1.
Rian Arreazola would later smash a single through the left side, scoring
Kyle Pouncy to make it 2-2. Later in the inning, the hot hitting
Jake Schramm would hit a 2 rbi single, scoring Kraft and
Garrett Warren that would make it 4-2 for the Jacks.
Shawn O'Connell later singled to left field, scoring Arreazola to make it 5-2. The Knights would add a run in the bottom frame of the inning before an
Alex Carey rbi single, scoring Pouncy would make it 6-3. Stuckart would hit a sac fly to score Carey, making it 7-3 for the Jacks. The Jacks would continue their hot hitting in the 6th inning as
Adrian Bethel would hit an rbi single, scoring Schramm to make it 9-3. The Jacks would have a balance attack at the plate, scoring runs in the 7th and 8th innings and
Adrian Bethel would cap off the scoring with a solo home run in the top of the 9th inning as the Jacks would close out the 2019 season with a win, winning 14-4.
Bethel would lead all LumberJack hitters in game two, going 4-5 at the plate.
Reuter would pitch strong for the Jacks, going 7.1 innings, allowing 10 hits and striking out 5 batters. Knusta would once again come in to pitch 1.2 innings in relief.
The Jacks finished the 2019 season with a 11-23-1 overall record, finishing in a tie for 6th place in the UMAC, just missing out on the final playoff spot in the UMAC tournament next week.
The Jacks will resume play in the Spring of 2020.
