Ashland, WI-
The long awaited wait for the LumberJacks to have their home opener finally happed today as the Jacks hosted North Central University in a UMAC doubleheader. The Jacks would pick up the important sweep, moving them up the UMAC standings as they went on to win both games by scores of 3-2 and 10-6.
Game 1
In game one,
Adrian Bethel would get the start on the mound for the Jacks. Pitching from both sides would be dominant, as the two teams would remain scoreless until the fifth inning. The Jacks would open the scoring in the bottom of the fifth as
Ben Matteson would get the Jacks on the board with a sac fly to center field, scoring
Rian Arreazola to make it 1-0. North Central would even the game up in the sixth with a run before the Jacks would retake the lead in the bottom frame as
Noah Cross would score off of a pitcher's balk to make it 2-1. The Jacks would add an insurance run in the 7th as
Austin Stuckart ripped a single to left field, scoring
Adrian Bethel to make it 3-1. North Central would add a run in the bottom of the 8th and
Riley Reuter would come in to take over from Bethel. The Jacks would get a double play and Reuter would get out of the Jam as the score remained 3-2. Reuter would close the door in the 9th and the Jacks would take game one 3-2.
Adrian Bethel would pitch 7 strong innings for the Jacks, giving up two earned runs, off of 6 hits and struck out 8 batters.
Bethel would also lead all LumberJack hitters, going 2-3 at the plate.
Game 2
In game two,
Carson Ferry would get the nod on the mound for the Jacks. After a solo home run in the top of the second from North Central, the Jacks would explode for 5 runs in the bottom of the 3rd inning as
Rian Arreazola singled, scoring
Earl Kraft to make it 1-1.
Jake Schramm later doubled to right field, scoring Arreazola to make it 2-1. Joe Veit capped off the 5 run inning with a 2 rbi single, scoring
Adrian Bethel and
Ben Matteson to make it 5-1.
Ben Matteson would have an rbi ground out in the 4th to make it 7-1 for the Jacks in the 4th inning.
Austin Stuckart would hit an rbi sac fly and
Earl Kraft would score off of an error and the Jacks would jump out to the impressive 9-1 lead. North Central would not back down, scoring three runs in the sixth and two runs in the 7th to make it a 9-6 game.
Adrian Bethel would add an insurance run for the Jacks with an rbi single to right field, scoring Arreazola to make it 10-6.
Jonathan Knusta would come in to pitch and close the door for the Jacks as they would go on to take game two, 10-6.
Rian Arreazola would lead all LumberJack hitters, going 4-5 at the plate with two runs scored.
Carson Ferry would pitch 5 innings for the Jacks, striking out ten batters.
The Jacks will be back at home this Saturday (April 27th) as they host Minnesota Morris in a UMAC doubleheader. Game one is set to start at 12pm
