Jacksonville, IL-
The Northland College Baseball team continued their weekend trip in Jacksonville, IL today for a doubleheader vs. MacMurray College. The Jacks would fall in game one, 5-1 but come back strong in game two, rallying for an impressive 16-12 win.
Game 1
In game one, MacMurray would get on the board first in the bottom of the first inning with two runs, but the Jacks would respond with a run of their own in the second as
Rian Arreazola would rip a single up the middle, scoring
Adrian Bethel to make it 2-1. MacMurray would however add two runs in the third inning, extending their lead to 4-1. Northland would have a hard time mustering up anything at the plate through the middle innings as the teams would go scoreless. MacMurray would add an insurance run in the sixth inning and take game one, 5-1.
Kyle Wallace and
Austin Stuckart would both pitch in today's game, keeping the MacMurray batters in check only allowing 6 hits.
Jake Schramm,
Noah Cross and
Rian Arreazola would each have a hit in game one.
Game 2
In game two, the Jacks would get on the board first as
Noah Cross would reach on a fielding error, scoring
Jake Schramm to make it 1-0. In the bottom half of the inning however, MacMurray would explode for 12 runs, taking the early 12-1 lead. The two teams would go scoreless through the fourth inning and it looked as if the Jacks would fall in this game before a 7 run explosion in the 5th inning as
Kyle Pouncy would get things started by scoring off of a wild pitch.
Austin Stuckart would later single to short, scoring
Noah Cross.
Alex Carey would later punch a single to right field, scoring Stuckart to make it 12-6.
Rian Arreazola would later hammer a 2 rbi single, scoring
Joseph Veit and
Adrian Bethel to make it 12-8. The two teams would go scoreless in the 6th inning and the Jacks would again find their groove at the plate in the 7th inning, scoring 8 more runs as
Alex Carey would get things started with an rbi double to make it 12-9.
Jake Schramm would later rip a single through the middle, scoring Carey and an error would score Veit. Pouncy would add an rbi fielder's choice to tie the game at 12, scoring Schramm. The Jacks would continue to add runs and it would be capped off from a 2 rbi single from
Adrian Bethel as the Jacks would then take a 16-12 lead into the bottom of the 7th.
Riley Reuter, who would come into the 3rd inning to pitch would close the door in the bottom of the 7th and the Jacks would take game two and cap off the incredible comeback, 16-12.
Reuter, who would pick up the win, pitched 5 innings, only allowing 3 hits and would add 4 strikeouts.
Jonathan Knusta would also add two innings in relief early, pitching well and going 2 innings, only allowing 1 hit with 1 strikeout.
Adrian Bethel would lead the Jacks at the plate, going 3-4 with 3 rbi's and scoring 2 runs.
The Jacks will head to East Peoria, IL to take on Robert Morris-Peoria next weekend (March 30-31) for their final non-conference games before UMAC conference play opens up on April 6th here at home vs. Northwestern, MN.
