ASHLAND, Wis. - The Northland College women's hockey team began their campaign with a tough 3-0 loss to Bethel University. The Jills and Royals kept each other at bay in the first period even though both teams had ample opportunities; however, the Royals would break through in the 2^nd period and would later add two more goals in the 3^rd period.

In the 1^st period, both goaltenders were on top of their game.  Gabby Suhr would show off her cat like reflexes in net while making 15 saves in the 1^st period.  On the flipside, the Jills came out firing and pelted 9 shots on the Bethel goaltender, however, she was able to come up big as well.

After a scoreless first period, the Jills were hungry to put the first tally on the board.  Robyn Matula and Ashley Hammes put a few shots on frame early, however, Bethel's Goaltender was up to the task. With 26 seconds left in the 2^nd period, the Royals would notch the first goal of the game off of a great 1 on 1 move before finishing the puck. 

In the 3^rd period, the Jills had a tough time staying out of the penalty box.  Bethel would take advantage by putting two more goals on the board, early in the period.  The Jills would respond well as they created numerous fast break opportunities.  Unfortunately, the Lumberjills were unable to capitalize.  Northland College would drop to (0-1) on the season, while Bethel improves to (1-0) on the year.
