The Jills squared off against the Bethel University Royals today for the second game of their weekend doubleheader.
The Jills wasted no time in the first period as
Ashley Hammes would rip a shot into the net to put the Jills up 1-0. She was assisted by
Emma Vandergeest and
Vivienne Kallio on the play. The Jills continued to hold pressure on the Royals' defense and controlled the rest of the period. However, they wouldn't be able to add to their lead. They would go into the second up 1-0.
The Jills offense slowed early in the second period. The Royals would capitalize on the opportunity and tie the game up at 1-1. The Royals took a 2-1 lead over the Jills a few minutes later. They would be able to add an insurance goal before the end of the period to widen their lead to 3-1.
The Royals scored early in the first to build their lead to three and would add an insurance goal later in the period to go up 5-1.
Amanda Abounader would find the back of the net late in the period to get the Jills to within three. She was assisted by
Markia Smith. However, the Jills would run out of time. They lost by a final score of 5-2.
Gabby Suhr recorded 41 saves in the match, while
Aubrielle Champagne recorded 8.
The Jills will be back in action 1/11 at home against the University of Wisconsin-River Falls. Puck drop is scheduled for 7pm.
