The Jills traveled to Finlandia University today for their first game of a weekend doubleheader against the Lions.
The Jills immediately controlled the puck to start the first, attacking the net early and often. However, they wouldn't be able to get their shots to land. The Jills continued creating opportunities throughout the period, but weren't able to get on the board. The Jills would be able to keep the Lions off the board, taking a 0-0 tie into the second.
The Jills maintained control of the puck in the second as they continued to pressure the Lions defense, but still weren't able to breakthrough. Their defense would continue to stay strong in the second and preserve the scoreless tie. They would have opportunities, but still couldn't jump out in front. The Jills would go into the third still tied 0-0.
The third period would mirror the first two as the Jills controlled the period, attacking the Lions' net. The Lions would only be able to tally five shots on goal in the period, as the Jills' defense would continue to keep the Lions off of the board. Neither team would be able to break the tie before the end of the period, The game would go into overtime.
The Jills threatened right away to score in overtime, but weren't able to get the puck into the back of the net. With a little over a minute elapsed in the period the Lions would be able to score. The Jills would lose by a final score of 1-0.
Gabby Suhr finished the game with 25 saves.
The Jills out-shot the Lions 49-26 on the day.
The Jills will be back on the ice tomorrow (1/27) for game two against the Lions. Puck drop is set for 2:30pm (EST).
