Jills Complete Weekend Sweep

Ashland, WI –

The Jills hosted the Marian University Sabres again today at the Bay Area Civic Center for game two of their Northern Collegiate Hockey Association weekend doubleheader.

The Jills came out fast in the first as they immediately controlled the puck. Less than two minutes in, the Jills would get on the board when Ally Covert found the back of the net to give the Jills the first lead of the day. She was assisted by Robyn Matula and Markia Smith on the play. The Sabres came close to tying it up late in the period, but the Jills held them scoreless. They would go into the first intermission up 1-0.

The Jills carried over their strong offensive showing into the second period as they immediately tallied shots on goal. With 5:05 elapsed in the period Michaela Isetts-Williams would rip a shot into the back of the net to give the Jills a 2-0 lead over the Sabres. The Jills added to their lead when Ashley Hammes put it past the Sabres goaltender to put the Jills up by 3. She was assisted by Emma Vandergeest on the play. The Jills would once again keep the Sabres out of the net, taking their 3-0 lead into the third period.

The teams raced up and down the ice battling for the puck for the majority of the third. The Sabres threatened to chip away at the Jills' lead, but wouldn't be successful. Samantha Scott added an insurance goal for the Jills late in the third as she would score an empty net goal, giving the Jills a 4-0 lead. The Jills would win by a final score of 4-0 and complete their weekend sweep.

Gabby Suhr finished the day with 31 saves.

The Jills will be on the road 1/26 at Finlandia University. Puck drop is scheduled for 7pm (EST).
