Watertown, WI -
The Jills traveled to Watertown, WI today for a non-conference triangular against the Finlandia University Lions and the Maranatha Baptist University Sabercats.
The Jills played the Finlandia University Lions in their first match of the night.
In the first set, the Jills didn't waste any time jumping out to a 6-0 lead to start the match. The Lions would fight back and retake the lead. However, the Jills would be able to put together a 7 point rally to jump back out in front. They wouldn't look back and would take the first set 25-21.
In set two the teams came out evenly matched, trading leads multiple times. The Lions would be able to put together multiple three point rallies to keep the Jills at bay. They would lose the set 25-18.
Set 3 mirrored the second set of the match as the teams would keep close to one another. The Jills had the lead, but weren't able to hold on as the Lions re-took it late to win the set 25-22.
The Lions got on the board first to start the fourth set, but the Jills would rally and get out front. The Lions would be able to once again reclaim the lead, but it wouldn't be enough as the Jills would be able to rattle off a 5 point rally to end the set, winning 25-23.
In the final set of the match, the Jills would struggle to get their offense going early. They would rally late, but it wouldn't be enough as the Lions would win the set and take the match 3-2.
Vivienne Kallio led with 11 kills, while
Hannah Hitchcock tallied 16 assists.
Adrianna Galtieri finished with 35 digs.
Game 2
In their second match of the night the Jills took on the Maranatha Baptist University Sabercats.
The Jills took the first lead of the set, but the Sabercats would be able to jump out in front later in the set. The Jills would keep pace with the Sabercats, but a 7 point rally would allow them to take the set 25-18.
In set 2, the teams would start out trading points, keeping each other within reach. However, a 5 point rally by the Sabercats would allow them to put some distance between themselves and the Jills. The Jills would chip away at the deficit, but it wouldn't be enough as the Jills would fall 25-16.
In the final set of the match, the Jills would strike first and pressure the Sabercats. The Sabercats would tie it later in the set, but the Jills would once again take the lead. However, they weren't able to hold on, as the Sabercats would go on to win 25-17 and take the match 3-0.
Emma Rusch finished the match with a team high 7 kills, while
Caitlyn Severson had 15 assists.
Adrianna Galtieri led with 18 digs.
The Jills will be on the road 10/6 against the Crown College Storm. The match is set to begin at 3pm.
Northland College is an NCAA Division III institution located in Ashland, WI. The LumberJacks and LumberJills sponsor 14 varsity sports and compete in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference and the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association.
