Jills Drop Two on the Road

Duluth, MN -

The Jills traveled to Duluth, MN today for an Upper Midwest Athletic Conference triangular with the College of St. Scholastica Saints and the University of Wisconsin-Superior Yellowjackets.

Game 1 saw the Jills matchup against the College of St. Scholastica Saints.

In set 1, the Saints jumped out to a 3-0 lead. The Jills jumped right back into it and quickly cut away the deficit. The Jills would keep it close until the Saints would rattle off two six-point rallies to end the set. They would lose 25-10.

The Jills got on the board first in set 2. The teams would take part in a back and forth battle, matching each other point for point. However, the Saints would pull away to take the set 25-18.

In the final set of the match the Saints would jump out in front, but the Jills would be able to tie it. The Saints would fight their way back into the lead and would hold on to win 25-14 and take the match 3-0.

Justine Litherland led the Jills with 5 kills, while Hannah Hitchcock led with 13 assists. Adrianna Galtieri recorded a team high 10 digs in the match.

Game 2

In their second match of the night the Jills faced off against the University of Wisconsin-Superior Yellowjackets.

The Yellowjackets started set 1 with a 5 point rally. The Jills chipped away at the Yellowjacket lead, but wouldn't be able to catch them in time. The Yellowjackets would take set 1 25-14.

In set 2, the Jills struck first, but a 4 point rally by the Yellowjackets would allow them to take the lead. The Jills would struggle to string points together in the set, and would fall 25-19.

The Jills once again took the first lead of the game. The Yellowjackets would fight their way back into it and would regain the lead. A 13 point rally by the YellowJackets later in the set would seal the victory. The Jills would lose by a final score of 25-11.

Vivienne Kallio led the Jills with 8 kills, while Justine Litherland added 7. Hannah Hitchcock finished the match with 18 assists, and a team high 14 digs.

The Jills will be back in action 9/21 at home against the University of Northwestern. The game is set to begin at 7pm.

Northland College is an NCAA Division III institution located in Ashland, WI. The LumberJacks and LumberJills sponsor 14 varsity sports and compete in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference and the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association.
