The Jills hosted nationally ranked Upper Midwest Athletic Conference opponent the University of Northwestern Eagles tonight at the Chapple Family Gymnasium.
Set 1 started out as a back and forth battle between the two teams. The Eagles would take the lead, but the Jills would battle back to tie it. However, a 6 point rally late in the set would allow the Eagles to widen their lead and take the first set of the match 25-11.
In the second set of the night the Eagles would jump out to a 10-0 lead. The Jills would struggle to get their offense going throughout the set. The Eagles would go on to take the set 25-7.
The Eagles jumped out to a 7-1 lead in the third set, but the Jills would be able to fight their way back into it. With their offense firing on all cylinders the Jills would chip away at the Eagles lead and eventually get to within 2. However, they wouldn't be able to catch the Eagles in time. They lost set 3 by a final score of 25-22, allowing the Eagles to take the match 3-0.
Nora Hagen led the Jills with 5 kills, while
Justine Litherland recorded 4.
Hannah Hitchcock had a team high 11 assists, and
Adrianna Galtierie finished the match with 11 digs.
The Jills will be back on the court for a UMAC triangular at North Central University tomorrow 9/22. Game 1 against the Rams will begin at 2pm, while game two against Martin Luther College will start at 4pm.
