Morris, MN -
The Jills traveled to Morris, MN today for an Upper Midwest Athletic Conference triangular against the University of Northwestern Eagles and the University of Minnesota Morris Cougars.
The Jills faced off against the University of Northwestern Eagles for their first game of the day.
In set 1, the Eagles would get on the board first. A 7 point rally would allow them to take a 12-2 lead. The Jills would try to battle their way back, but the Eagles would take set 1 25-8.
The Jills would get their offense going in set 2. The Eagles would take the first lead of the game, but the Jills would be able to fight their way back and tie it up at 10-10. The Jills would continue to get points on the board, but a 6 point rally by the Eagles would allow them to take set 2 25-13.
The Jills offense would continue in the third set, as they would trade points with the Eagles. The back and forth battle would continue through the set, until the Eagles put together a 6 point rally to give them a wide lead. The Eagles would hold on to win 25-11 and take the match 3-0.
Vivienne Kallio led the Jills with 6 kills, while
Hannah Hitchcock tallied 6 assists.
Adrianna Galtieri finished the game with 10 digs.
Game 2
The Jills took on the University of Minnesota Morris Cougars for their final game of the conference triangular.
In the first set, the Jills' offense would struggle early as the Cougars would get out to an 11-3 lead. The Jills started to gain some ground late in the set, but wouldn't be able to catch the Cougars in time. They fell 25-11.
The Jills took a quick 3-1 lead in the second set. They would briefly fall behind, but would be able to reclaim the lead later in the set. The teams would battle back and forth for the remainder of the set. However, the Jills wouldn't be able to hold on as the Cougars would take the set 25-20.
In set 3, the Cougars took an 8-0 lead to start the game. The Jills would try to chip away at the deficit, but the Cougars' offense would be too much. The Jills would fall by a final score of 25-9, allowing the Cougars to take the match.
Justine Litherland led with 5 kills, while
Hannah Hitchcock recorded 5 assists. Hitchcock also had a team high 11 digs in the match.
Head Coach
Kim Falkenhagen commented on the day's matches, "We played arguably the 2 toughest teams in the conference and played much better than our last couple of showings. We competed well and some players really started to step up."
The Jills will be back on the court 9/18 in Duluth, MN for another UMAC triangular against the College of St. Scholastica and the University of Wisconsin-Superior.
