The Jacks hosted NCHA opponent the Trine University Thunder today at the Bay Area Civic Center.
The Jacks wasted no time in the first period as
Zackary Fisher found the back of the net to give the Jacks an early 1-0 lead over the Thunder. He was assisted by
Kalib (Gus) Ford and
Cole Woodliffe on the play. The Thunder would try to answer, but the Jacks held them scoreless. Kalib (Gus) Ford would rip a shot past the Thunder goaltender, putting the Jacks up 2-0.
Zackary Fisher and
Cole Woodliffe were credited with assists on the goal. Less than a minute later the Jacks would add an insurance goal when
Kurt Sonne would put it between the pipes, giving the Jacks a 3-0 lead.
Zackary Fisher and Kalib (Gus) Ford assisted in the play. The Jacks would go into the first intermission with their 3-0 lead still intact.
The Thunder scored early in the second period, chipping away at the Jacks' lead. However, the Jacks would be able to keep them out of the net for the remainder of the period. The Jacks would continue to pressure the Thunder and create scoring opportunities throughout the period, but wouldn't be able to add to their lead. They would go into the third period up 3-1.
The Thunder scored first in the third to get within one of the Jacks. However,
Josh Racek would put it in the net to get the Jacks up 4-2.
Zackary Fisher and
Lucas DeBenedet assisted in the play. Just over a minute later,
Oscar Larsson would score an insurance goal for the Jacks. He was assisted by Kalib (Gus) Ford and
Michael Courvoisier. That would be all the Jacks needed as they held on to win by a final score of 5-2.
David Krejcik recorded 23 saves in the game.
The Jacks will be back on the ice tomorrow (12/1) against NCHA opponent the Adrian College Bulldogs. Puck drop is set to begin at 3pm.
