LumberJills Lose Close Game to Eagles in UMAC Semi Final

Today, the Northland College women's soccer took on the University of Northwestern in the Semi Final game of the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference tournament.  The host Eagles were the #1 seed in the tournament, the LumberJills were the #4 seed.  The LumberJills fell in a hard fought battle 3-2.

The Eagles struck first in the game with a goal in the 18th minute of the half.  Both teams would keep battling but neither were able to find the net the rest of the half.  The half would end with Northwester leading 1-0.  The Eagles outshot the Jills 5-2 in the 1st half. Alexandra Ritchie had 4 saves in the half.    

The second half the LumberJills came out fast.  Madeleine Wieland would score an unassisted goal for Northland just 4 minutes into the half to tie the game 1-1.  Wieland and the Jills kept pushing and scored again in the 7th minute of the half.  This time Wieland scored with an assist by Olivia Garceau.  The Jills would hold the 2-1 lead until the 21st minute of the half when the Eagles would score off of a corner kick, putting the score at 3-2. 

Offensively the Jills were led by Wieland who scored both goals for Northland in the game.  She had 3 shots on goal for the night.  Kaiya Voldberg and Laura Rethmann each had one.  Ritchie had 7 saves on the night.    

The LumberJills end the season with a 10-8-1 (6-3-1 UMAC) record.  Wieland lead the team in goals with 15, that was 6th best in the UMAC and 3rd in shots with 82, Kaiya Voldberg had 10 goals on the season, 8th best in the UMAC.  Keeper Alexandria Ritchie finished the season 3rd best in Save % at .796.
