DULUTH, Minn. - Northland College (9-8-3, 5-7-2 UMAC) were knocked out of the tournament by #1 seed St. Scholastica in a 4-0 final.
The Jills offense couldn't figure out the Saints defense, while Scholastica was able to take advantage of their opportunities in front of the net. Northland could only manage 1 shot against the stingy Saint defense, and were outshot 33-1.
Jessica Jaeckel managed to save 13 of the shots on goal in the 4-0 loss.
Shannon Carlson got CSS on the board with her first goal of the game on a cross from the right side at the 12th minute. Leach Hamm would extend the lead for the Saints in the 38th minute as she would find the back of the net off a scramble in front of the goal. Lauren Lynch's goal gave the Saints a 3-0 lead and Carlson would get her second in the 77th minute.
"I thought we had a good game plan, and the women responded well to what we asked of them," said head coach
Olaf Kirsten. "We knew we had to defend well and limit our mistakes, and in the end we made a couple too many errors against a very good team. I am very proud of how we played today and how we developed as a team throughout the season. You want your last game to be your best effort, and this was for us. You also hope that your seniors shine in their final game, and each one of them played as well as they could today."
