Dan Schumacher took over as Northland College's Executive Director of Intercollegiate Athletics in June of 2023. Schumacher has 29 years of experience in NCAA athletics at the DI, DII, and DIII levels.
Schumacher has brought growth and success with him in all aspects of collegiate athletics. He possesses a strong record of academic achievement, fiscal management, intentional recruitment and retention, diversity and equity initiatives, fundraising success, and elevating athletic programs to national prominence.
Before Northland, Schumacher was the athletic director at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire for nine years. He over Wisconsin's largest athletic program with 25 NCAA-sponsored sports and over 825 student-athletes. With the BluGolds Athletics Schumacher helped expand and increase enrollment in sports offerings. In his tenure, he saw seven national championships and many conference championships. He created three new athletic programs for UWEC: baseball, men's soccer, and women's lacrosse.
From 2012 to 2014, Dan Schumacher was the director of intercollegiate athletics and director of intramurals and recreation at Chicago State University. While there he was responsible for all athletic executive duties and leadership at the NCAA Division 1 level. Schumacher over the changing of conferences from the Great West Conference to the Western Athletic Conference in 2013.
For six years he was the director of intercollegiate athletics at Lewis University. Schumacher saw 19 conference championships and hosted four NCAA regional competitions. In his six years with LU saw the graduation rate rise from 55% in 2006 to a historic 86% in 2011.
Returning to his alma mater in 2002 to 2006 Winona State University he was in charge of fundraising for the NCAA D2 school. The fundraising secured resulted in $3 million for facilities upgrades for football, soccer, baseball, and basketball.
Schumacher earned his MA in educational administration and BA in public relations at Winona State University.
While attending WSU Schumacher was an All-American wide receiver and captain of the football team.
