LumberJacks fall in series finale with Cougars

MAUSTON, Wis. – The Northland College Baseball team was defeated in its series finale with the University of Minnesota Morris 16-3 in Upper Midwest Athletic Conference action Monday afternoon in Mauston, Wis.
 
Aidan Hernandez got the start on the mound for the LumberJacks. The senior recorded his first two out via strikeout to start the game. The Cougars would add three runs before the inning was over. A pair of errors by UMM put two runners on for the Jacks, but were left stranded.
 
Minnesota Morris continued to add runs, scoring four more in the second. Northland started to chip away at the lead in the bottom half of the inning. Ethan Boyce had the first hit for the Jacks with a single to left field. Caden Willis followed that up with another single. Mychal Castillo moved both runners as he grounded out to first. An error would have Boyce score for NC's first run.
 
Kazdion Mount came into pitch in the bottom of the second in the third inning, tossed a clean inning. In the fourth an error would have the Cougars score another run. In the bottom half of the inning, Willis tripled to center field. Castillo recorded an RBI after a ground out to the second baseman. Dezmon LeTexier reached base for the second time by error and would later come around to score after a single by Tyler Murphy.
 
The Jacks would not score a run for the rest of the game, but the Cougars would add more to win 16-3 in the series finale.
 
The LumberJacks totaled eight in the contest. Willis sent 3-for-3 at the plate with two singles and a triple. Murphy, Castillo, and LeTexier all recorded an RBI and Willis, Boyce, and LeTexier recorded a run. On the mound, Mount pitched 3.1 innings with four strikeouts and one earned run. Ryan Ehlert made his collegiate debut and tossed 2.1 innings with a strikeout and an earned run.
 
The LumberJacks have a short turnaround as they have a doubleheader with Lakeland University tomorrow (Tuesday) starting at noon.
