MANKATO, Minn. – The Northland College Baseball team was defeated in the series final with Bethany Lutheran College 14-0 in Upper Midwest Athletic Conference play Saturday morning in Mankato, Minn.
Peyton Solberg started on the mound for the LumberJacks. The senior tossed a one-two-three first inning to get the game rolling. In the bottom half of the inning,
Tyler Murphy had a leadoff double for the game's first hit. Murphy advanced to third on a fly ball to center but would be left on the bases.
The Vikings took the lead in the second with a leadoff home run. Bethany Lutheran would tack on three more runs before the inning was over. The fourth inning was the next time NC would get a hit, with
Nathan Davison singling to left field, but that would be the last hit for the Jacks as the Vikings continued to pile on the runs, taking the series finale.
Northland totaled two hits in the morning contest with a double from Murphy and a single from Davison.
Mychal Castillo reached base on an error, and
Caden Willis drew the only LumberJack walk. Errors hurt Northland as the team had six.
Solberg pitched 5.2 innings, recording two strikeouts, and gave up five earned runs.
Aidan Hernandez pitched the final 1.1 innings, giving up three hits and one earned run.
The LumberJacks are scheduled to have their home opener on Tuesday as they host Maranatha Baptist for a doubleheader starting at 2 p.m.
