Jacks comeback falls short in final game against Polars

ASHLAND, Wis. – The Northland College Baseball team dropped the series final against Crown College 5-3 in Upper Midwest Athletic Conference play Sunday afternoon in Ashland, Wis.
 
Kazdion Mount made the start on the mound for the Jacks. In his first two innings, he faced six batters, sitting them down in order. In the bottom of the first Tyler Murphy had the first hit of the game with a single to right field. He would then steal second and end up at third but would never come around to score.
 
In the fourth inning, the Polars did some damage. Crown would score five runs in the inning to go up 5-0. In the bottom half, Matt Simpson and Kurt Price drew walks, but the Jacks left two on to end the fourth.
 
The following inning Northland loaded the bases with only one but, a pair of strikeouts left zero on the board. Peyton Solberg came into the game with two runners on and one out in the sixth inning. Solberg hit the first batter he saw but got out of the jam, keeping the lead at five.
 
The LumberJacks got on the board in the sixth. Luke Maxwell reached first on catcher's interference to start a rally. With the bases loaded, Murphy was hit by a pitch to score Maxwell to cut the lead to four.
 
Hunter Wicklund led off the eighth with a double to left field. An error scored him was Maxwell ended up at second. Dezmon LeTexier advanced Maxwell to third as he grounded out to the pitcher. Maxwell would come around to score on a wild pitch making it 5-3 for the game's final score.
 
Northland tallied four hits in the contest with LeTexier having two, with Murphy and Wicklund having one. The Jacks drew five walks with Caden Willis taking the free pass twice. Murphy and Wicklund stole a base.
 
Mound went 5.1 innings, striking out one batter, while allowing five runs, all in the fourth inning. Solberg pitched the final 3.2 with two ks and no earned runs.
 
The Jacks step away from UMAC play for their next series as they host the Univeristy of Wiscosin-Eau Claire for a doubleheader on Wednesday with first pitch slated for 1 p.m.
