AUBURNDALE, Fla. – The Northland College Baseball team fell in its second game at the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational 15-3 to Illinois College Tuesday morning in Auburndale, Fla.
The LumberJacks were down early, trialing 6-0 before they were up to bat. The Jacks started the chip away in the second inning. It started with
Ridge Guyette singling to right field then
Jay Harris reached base after getting hit by a pitch.
Blake Richard advanced the runners before
Caden Willis scored both with a double.
The Jacks' bats went cold not able to cut down the lead as the Blueboys continued to extend the lead. After the sixth inning, Northland trailed 15-2. In the final frame,
Hunter Wicklund scored
Anthony Boyle with a double to left field to end the game 15-3.
Northland had five hits in the loss with two coming off the bat of Wicklund. After a game of only singles NC doubled twice by Wicklund and Willis. Also recording hits in the game were Guyette and
Vinny Troccoli. The Jacks took four free bases from walks with Willis,
Bryce Smith, Harris, and
Parker Williams all seeing four pitches outside.
Five pitchers were on the mound for Northland in the loss.
Aidan Hernandez started the game but was only able to record one out and gave up five earned runs.
Tyler Murphy came in relief and pitched 2.2 innings with three strikeouts and one earned run.
Claudio Aguilar entered the game in the seventh inning and pitched a scoreless frame only facing four batters.
The Jacks continue their spring break trip in Florida tomorrow (Wednesday) as they play Bethany College at 8:15 a.m.
