Jills drop road contest to Polars

ST. BONIFACIUS, Minn. – The Northland College Women's Basketball team fell 85-21 to Crown College in a road Upper Midwest Athletic Conference game Friday evening in St. Bonifacius, Minn.
 
The LumberJills struck first with a three-pointer from Tara Sandoval, assisted by Katelyn Altaha. The Polars responded right back with a three of their own, starting an 11-point run. Madison Mendoza ended the run with a jump shot in the paint. Sandoval hit her second three to bring Northland to eight on the quarter.
 
Northland was held to two points in the second quarter with Mendoza making her second basket of the game.
 
Kodie Rempp got on the board in the third quarter with a two-point jumper. Then Mendoza went on a four-point run scoring more points in the paint.
 
Mendoza ended her nine-point game with a made free throw for Northland's first points of the final quarter. Rempped a pair after grabbing an offensive rebound and putting a shot up. To end the scoring for NC was Altaha with a jump shot.
 
For the second game of the season, Mendoza led the team in scoring, dropping nine points in the loss. Sandoval started fast with two three-pointers in the first quarter but was held quiet for the remained of the game. Rempp pitched in four points and returning after missing seven games was Altaha who added two points.
 
The LumberJills had 28 rebounds with Rempp pacing the team with eight. Mendoza was behind her with six and Madi Owens grabbed five boards. Northland had two steals, both from Rempp and two blocks, one from Rempp and the other from Altaha.
 
The Jills continue their road trip tomorrow (Saturday) when they travel to the University of Minnesota Morris for a 3 p.m., game.
