PELLA, Iowa – The Northland College Women's Basketball team was defeated in its season opener 32-91 against Central College Friday evening in Pella, Iowa. Senior
Kodie Rempp led the team scoring with 11 points.

"It was definitely not the score we wanted or anything like that," said Head Coach
Corey Sackmann after the loss. "This is our first game, that is their (Central College) sixth game of the year. It's a new system, a new coach, everything. I expect us to improve and that's what I expect us to do game in a game out this season."

On Northland's first shot of the season
Hannah Peel connected from deep scoring her first points in a Northland uniform. The Dutch had the next four points to take their first lead.
Britta Josephson answered back with a layup in the paint to regain the lead. Central began to pull away for the Jills down the stretch.
Hanna Hoskin ended the scoring in the first quarter with a three.

Hoskin started the second the same as it ended with another three-pointer. Northland was held quiet down the stretch. Josephson broke up the scoring draught converting a three-point play. Rempp ended the half with another Northland three assisted by Josephson.

Katelyn Altaha had the first Northland basket of the second half after
Ellison DeZwarte grabbed a defensive rebound. After a low-scoring third quarter, Rempp started the final 10 minutes with a three-pointer assisted by Peel. Rempp connected from deep again to end the game with 11 points. A jumper from Hoskin and a free throw from Peel ended the scoring in the game.

"I think we had a lot of talent so up, we saw our skills for the first time," said senior Rempp. "Getting out on the game floor was really good for us. We saw where we are at and where we can grow."

Rempp led the scoring for Northland with 11 points. Hoskin and Josephson rounded out the top three in scoring with eight and seven points respectively. Peel added four points and Altaha chipped in two. Peel had a team-high five assists. Rempp paced the team with eight rebounds.

Northland plays its next game tomorrow (Saturday) with an exhibition against Upper Iowa University at 5 p.m.
