Sandoval reaches double-figures for the third straight game to lead Northland in scoring

ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Northland College Women's Basketball team dropped an Upper Midwest Athletic Conference game Wednesday night to the University of Northwestern 96-32 in St. Paul, Minn. Freshman Tara Sandoval led the team in scoring reaching double-digits in her third game in a row.
 
The Eagles started the scoring off the tip and held the lead for the rest of the game. In the first quarter, the LumberJills scored nine points all coming from behind the arc. Sandoval made her first three-point attempt for Northland's first points of the game. Kodie Rempp also made it from deep on her first go and ended with Sandoval scoring from deep.
 
In the following quarter, Northland was held to only five points, with Madison Mendoza converting on a layup and Rempp's second three.
 
Coming out of the half Sandoval scored her eighth point of the game from a two-point jumper with Mendoza picking up the assist. Shortly after Rempp made another three. On the following possession, Sandoval reached double figures on a layup. To wrap up the third quarter Sandoval went 1-of-2 from the line.
 
The final quarter Northland scored a game-high 10 points. Sandoval made her third three of the game three and a half minutes in with Rempp assisting on the basket. Rempp chipped in her fourth three for a season-high from behind the arc. Mendoza hit a three for the final bucket for the Jills.
 
Two student-athletes reached double-figures for NC in Sandoval and Rempp. Sandoval reached double-figures for the third straight game with 15 points coming form three triples, a jumper, a layup and two free throws. Rempp was behind her with 12 points all coming from the three-ball. Rempp shot 4-for-8 from deep. Mendoza chipped in the other five points for the Jills.
 
Rempp and Sandoval also led Northland defensively as well both with six rebounds. The Jills had three offensive rebounds coming from Sandoval, Mendoza, and Ellie Kracht. Rempp had both steals and Jojo Lowmaster had the team's sole block.
 
The Jills return to Ashland on Saturday when they host the University of Wisconsin-Superior at 3 p.m.
