ASHLAND, Wis. – The Northland College Men's Basketball team started slow against the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire leading to 79-43 loss Saturday evening in Ashland, Wis.
The Jacks struggled to score their first basket, missing their first nine shots.
Drew Lindberg ended the scoreless streak with a jumper, assisted by
Jordan Brennan. Northland struggled from the field in the first half shooting 5-for-28 (17.86%) from the field and went 0-for-11 from behind the arc. The Jacks trailed 12-35 going into halftime.
Northland started the second half with a three-pointer from Stephan Kesti. After a Blugolds' basket, the Jacks went on a six-point run with points coming from Lindberg, Kesti and
Langston Flowers to force UWEC to take a timeout. The Blugolds started to pull away in help to keep NC close Flowers knocked down a triple with
Marvin McBroom scoring two on the next position. It was not enough to start a big run, resulting in a 79-43 win for UW-Eau Claire.
Flowers led the scoring for the Jacks with nine points, coming from two layups, a three-pointer and two free throws. Kesti and Lindberg was behind him at seven and six points respectively. In the second half Northland shot 10-for-27 (37.04%) from the field, 2-for-9 (22.22%) from three and 9-for-11 from the free throw line.
Brennan and Flowers led the team with seven boards in the game. Northland totaled 32 rebounds, seven offensive. Brennan,
Jahlani Thornton, and
Jaden Jones came away with two steals in the contest.
The Jacks start Upper Midwest Athletic Conference play next week when they host the University of Minnesota, Morris on Friday and Crown College on Saturday.
