Big first half leads Buena Vista over Northland

STORM LAKE, Iowa – The Northland College Men's Basketball team was bested by Buena Vista University 85-58 in nonconference play Sunday afternoon in Storm Lake, Iowa.

With the loss, the LumberJacks fall to 0-4 overall as the Beavers improve to 3-0.

The Beavers started hot as the Jacks struggled to get their first basket. BVU started the game scoring 15 unanswered points.  Coming off a Jordan Brennan steal, Jaden Jones scored the first points for Northland with a dunk. That could not jump-start the offense, going without their next point for three more minutes.  Following a pair of free throws made by Damian Cejka the Jacks offense started to get rolling. Tyler Tuura and Marvin McBroom scored on the following drives. The teams started to trade points but the early hole, Northland found itself in led to a 47-22 first-half score.

It did not take long for Northland to score in the second half, in its second possession Stephen Kesti knocked down a jump shot. The second half was much closer finishing with Buena Vista having a slight edge at 38-36 resulting in an 85-58 win for the Beavers.

The 58 points from Northland came from 13 different student-athletes with Brennan leading the pack with eight. Coming off the bench sophomore Donovan Washington was behind the senior with seven points coming from a jumper, three-pointer and two free throws.
