Jacks Split With Martin Luther on the Road

NEW ULM, Minn.--- The Northland College Baseball team continued their road series today against Martin Luther College in a UMAC double-header in New Ulm, MN. The Jacks picked up their first win of the 2022 season, taking game one 15-10 but fell in game two 17-11. 

Game 1 Box Score 

In game one, Christian Goodson would get the start on the mound for the Jacks. After giving up two runs in the first and three in the second, the Jacks bats burst on the scene with runs in the third, fourth and fifth innings. Matt Simpson, Peyton Solberg, Garrett Warren, each collected rbi hits to give the Jacks a 9-5 lead. In the top of the 7th, Ridge Guyette hammered his first NCAA home run over left field, scoring three runs to give the Jacks the 12-6 cushion. Later in the inning, Zack Nelson crushed a ball over the right field wall for his first NCAA homer to increase the Jacks lead to 13-6. After a few late runs from Martin Luther, Guyette continued to stay hot at the dish, smacking his second home run of the game to make it 14-9. Keaton Arreazola later singled to right center, scoring Nelson to make it 15-9. Anthony Boyle would come in for relief in the 9th as MLC would score a run but the Jacks would take game one by a score of 15-10. 

Guyette would lead all LumberJack hitters in game one going 4-6 at the plate with two home runs and four runs scored. 

Game 2 Box Score 

In game two, Ridge Guyette would get the start on the mound for the Jacks. It was the LumberJacks taking the early lead in game two as Zach Ross collected a base loaded walk, Isaac Voelker-Morris later his a two rbi single to give the Jacks the 3-0 lead in the first. After four runs from Martin Luther in the bottom frame, the Jacks offense continued to stay hot as Keaton Arreazola and Peyton Solberg collected rbi hits to give the Jacks the 6-4 lead however MLC scored 8 runs in the bottom frame to lead the Jacks 12-6. The Jacks cut into the MLC lead in the top of the sixth inning as Arreazloa, Ross and Solberg each had rbi hits to make it 12-9. Trailing in the 8th, Hunter Wicklund hammered an rbi double to right field, scoring Morris but it wouldn't be enough as MLC added insurance runs in the 8th to take game two 17-11 over the Jacks. 

Solberg led all LumberJacks with three hits in game two. 

The Jacks continue UMAC action tomorrow (April 11th) as they travel to Superior, WI for a single 9 inning game against UW-Superior. First pitch is scheduled for 1pm.
