LumberJills Drop Road Game to Pointers

Northland Women's Hockey dropped their third game of the week on Saturday afternoon at UW-Stevens Point 1-5.

The Northland College Women's Hockey team was back on the road on Saturday afternoon for the second time this week, this time traveling to UW-Stevens Point. After a closely contested first period, which saw the two teams battle to a 2-1 score, the Pointers were able to pull away with three goals in the final two periods to secure the win. 

Northland was able to find the equalizer early in the first period. After allowing a goal in the game's first three minutes, the LumberJills scored in the eighth minute. Freshman Kate Holtz scored her third goal of the season on a rebound from Kyleigh Moffatt's shot that was saved. Moffatt was credited with an assist on the goal. The game remained tied for seven minutes before the Pointers were able to jump back in front. Stevens Point scored a power play goal in the second to extend their lead to two. In the third, they added two goals, one of which came short-handed. Sky Hughes finished the contest with 53 saves for the Jills, who were out-shot 20-58.

Northland (2-9-1, 0-4-0 WIAC) will return to action on Tuesday as they head to Bethel University. Face off is scheduled for 7:00 PM.
