Jills Split With UW-Superior on the Road

SUPERIOR, Wis.-- The Northland College Softball team traveled to Superior, WI today for a UMAC doubleheader vs. UW-Superior. The Jills took game 1, shutting out the Yellow Jackets 5-0 but would drop game two by a final score of 5-2. 

Game 1

In game one, Sofia Garcia would get the start on the mound for the Jills. Northland struck first in the top of the first inning as Kaylee Harnack would score off of a throwing error to make it 1-0 for the Jills. The Jills expanded their lead in the 4th inning as Natalie Erler was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, scoring Saylor Donnelly. Later in the inning Harnack singled, scoring Elizabeth Peters to make it 3-0. The Jills added two more insurance runs in the fifth inning to take game 1, 5-0. 

Garcia, who was dominant on the mound all day, finished her day going 7.0 innings, giving up 0 runs on four hits and struck out 3 batters. 

Harnack led all LumberJill hitters at the plate in game one going 2X3. 

Game 2

In game two, Kayla Preisler would get the start on the rubber for the Jills. The Jills once again took the early lead in the first inning as Saylor Donnelly ripped a single to left field, scoring Jenna Reyes to make it 1-0. UWS would tie the game at 1 in the bottom frame of the inning and extended their lead in the fifth, scoring 4 runs to make it 5-1. Donnelly would add another rbi hit in the 7th, scoring Harnack but it wouldn't be enough as the Jills fell in game two, 5-2. 

Donnelly led all LumberJills in game two at the plate, going 3X4. 

With tomorrow's doubleheader vs. St. Scholastica postponed, the Jills are back in action this Saturday (May 1st) as they host Bethany Lutheran at LumberJill Field. First pitch of game one is set to start at 1pm.
