Jordan Brennan scored a career high 34 points but it wasn't enough as the Northland College Lumberjacks fell to the University of Minnesota Morris Cougars by a score of 85-76. The loss drops the Jacks to 5-17 (2-11 UMAC) while the Cougars improve to 7-14 (3-9 UMAC).
The game was mostly even throughout the first half as the Cougars took a narrow three point lead into halftime at 30-27. The Jacks tied the game at 37-37 less than four minutes into the second half off of a Brennan three. The Cougars responded with a 9-0 run before Brennan got into the paint for two more points to pull his team within seven.
With 8:56 left in the game the Cougars started to pull away as they opened a double digit lead. Back to back three pointers from Benny Larry Jr. and Brennan cut the lead to eight. After the Cougars Jarret Johnson scored in the paint,
Diego Carter responded with a three pointer which was followed by another two points from Brennan to bring the Jacks within five.
The Cougars extended the lead back to nine at the 3:07 mark. Brennan hit another one of his six 3-pointers to bring them within six, but the Cougars were able to make their freethrows down the stretch and hold off the Jacks for the 85-76 win.
Benny Larry Jr. finished the game with 20 points for the Jacks. Brennan shot 14-18 from the field and hit six of his eight three point attempts.
The Jacks are in action next on Saturday at 3:00pm when they host Bethany Lutheran.
