Ashland, WI – The Northland College Lumberjills hosted the Marian College Sabres on Saturday afternoon in a rematch of last night's contest that saw the Sabres down the Jills by a score of 3-0. This night proved to be different as the Jills took a lead in the first period before finishing the night with a 3-1 win. With the win the Jills are now 6-11 on the year.
The Jills jumped out to an early lead as
Ally Covert found the back of the net just 6:48 into the period to give her team the 1-0 lead. The game remained scoreless until there was 8:42 left in the second period when the Jills benefited from a tremendous individual effort from
Samantha Scott. Scott received the puck in the neutral zone and skated across the blue line and quickly rifled a shot that found the top corner of the net, beating the Sabres goaltender on her blocker side.
The Sabres pulled one back late in the third by taking advantage of a five on three power play. The Jills were able to keep the Sabres at bay for the rest of the game and
Karadyn Kiviaho sealed the game with an empty net goal with 27 seconds left to play.
"I'm proud of the effort, passion, and composure that our team displayed today," commented Head Coach
